Frequently asked questions

How the app works, what you'll actually get from it, and why the people you compete with make all the difference.

Brain training

Does brain training actually work?
We won't tell you it raises your IQ. What you will see: faster reactions, better working memory, sharper mental math. These are measurable changes that show up in your daily scores over weeks and months. Consistency matters more than intensity, which is exactly why the app caps you at 10 minutes a day.
How long should you train your brain each day?
10 minutes. Short daily sessions outperform longer occasional ones. After 10 minutes of intense focus, returns diminish. More isn't better. Better is better. Read more about why 10 minutes is enough.
What types of games are included?
8 games across 6 categories: memory, mental math, logic, speed, spatial reasoning, and verbal. Each game adapts to your level, so you're always working just above your comfort zone. See the full breakdown on our games page.
Does it actually adapt to me?
Yes. Three days of calibration builds your cognitive profile. After that, every session pushes where you're weakest and keeps your strong points sharp. Swap 1-2 games per session if you prefer. Learn how the adaptive program works.

Competition

How does the handicap system work?
Like golf. Rankings reflect improvement, not raw score. A beginner improving fast will outrank a veteran who's plateaued. No fixed leaderboards. Everyone stays competitive. Read more about how challenges work.
Can I play with my partner?
That's what it's built for. Create a group, share the invite link, done. You each play your own session and the leaderboard updates automatically. The handicap system keeps it competitive even if one of you is much stronger. Many couples use it as a daily ritual.
Can I create a group with friends?
Yes. Free gets 1 group. Premium gives you unlimited groups. Invite anyone via link, compete on the leaderboard, send challenges. Groups have a collective streak that nobody wants to break. See all the social features.

The app

Is Dr. Mattousaki free?
Yes. Free gives you 6 games, 1 group, a daily score, and the same 10-minute session as Premium users. Premium (€5.99/month or €49.99/year) adds all games, unlimited groups, and analytics to track your progress in detail. See our pricing page.
Why does the app tell me to stop after 10 minutes?
Because 10 focused minutes beats an hour of distracted play. Most apps want you glued to your screen. Dr. Mattousaki respects your time. The cap is a hard limit, not a suggestion. Learn more about why 10 minutes is enough.
What platforms is the app available on?
iOS and Android. Your account syncs across devices. Play on your phone in the morning, check your stats on a tablet later.
What's the best alternative to Lumosity?
Where other apps want more of your time, we cap at 10 minutes and tell you to leave. You compete with people you know, not strangers. And the handicap system means a beginner can beat a veteran. Different philosophy, different results.
What makes Dr. Mattousaki different from other brain training apps?
The app tells you to stop after 10 minutes. You compete with people you actually know, and the handicap system keeps it fair across skill levels. Every session is built around your cognitive profile, not a generic template. Read more about our approach.
